Top 5 Holiday Movies to Watch With the Family

Considering it’s December and Christmas is just around the corner, it is now appropriate to start watching the Christmas movies. There are so many to choose from, from classics to newer releases, here is a top 5 list of some of my favorites. Get cozy, get some snacks, gather the family and enjoy these favorite Christmas movies.

  1. “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” (1970)
    Cast: Fred Astaire, Mickey Rooney

What’s it about? This film tells the story of how Santa Claus and several Christmas related traditions came to be. A tale about a boy named Kris who was left on the doorstep of a family named the Kringles. Narrated by the mailman, this is a classic that’s fun for the whole family.

  2. “Home Alone” (1990)
Cast: Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern

What’s it about? When 8 year old Kevin is accidentally left behind by his family on their trip to Paris, he is excited to have the house to himself. Unfortunately he is met by a pair of scary (and clumsy) burglars that could make this dream a nightmare.

  3. “Elf” (2003)
Cast: Will Ferrell, Bob Newhart, Zooey Deschanel

What’s it about? As a baby, Buddy mysteriously ended up in a Santa sack and landed in the North Pole. He was then raised by Santa’s elves but knowing he was different, he sets out to find his biological father and meets lots of interesting people along the way.

  4. “The Santa Clause” (1994)
Cast: Tim Allen, Eric Lloyd, Judge Reinhold

What’s it about? When a divorced dad accidentally kills a man in a Santa suit, he is magically transformed into the new Santa, with some rules of course!

  5. “Miracle on 34th Street” (1947)

What's it about? Kris Kringle steps in to replace a drunken Santa Claus in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and people love him, at first, until he starts going around claiming to be the real deal. Once institutionalized as insane, a young lawyer decides to take on his case and argue that he is in fact real!
With soooo many choices for Holiday movies and shows, it’s hard to pick just 5, but you here are some more to keep on your radar - “Polar Express” (2004), “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000) & (1966), “Scrooged” (1988), “Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer” (2000), “A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), National Lampoons Christmas Vacation” (1989)
